At the graduation each year I look for an appropriate message for the graduating class. Our Chairman of the Advisory Board, Mr Ravi Govender, spoke about the challenges faced by most ordinary people in our country. He also touched on the responsibility that designers have.
I agreed with this sentiment and reminded the graduates that its artists and designers who shape the world.
This year my message to the class of 2008 was very simple: Never give up!
A few days ago, I was reminded that the storm is always greatest just before the calm.
We are experiencing such a storm in the form of the global recession that is certainly affecting us all.
